At Redwood Primary School, we currently have Reading Ambassadors in Year 6. These children have been chosen for their positive attitude towards reading and their passion for books and all things English.

    Their responsibilities include:

    • Creating reading competitions for the whole school
    • Organising and labelling reading books
    • Updating bookshelves with up-to-date texts
    • Organising and choose our ‘Learning Loot’
    • Listening to younger children read

    Learning Loot

Learning Loot is a reward system that encourages reading at home. Children earn coins based on how many times they read over the half term:

    15 reads = 1 coin

    20 reads = 2 coins

    25 reads = 3 coins

At the end of the half term, children can spend their coins at the Treasure Trove. The Reading Ambassadors take responsibility for organising the coins and selecting prizes—choosing the rewards is their favourite part!

    Reading Competitions

The Reading Ambassadors organised their first-ever whole-school reading competition this year. They challenged each class to track how many minutes of Reading for Pleasure they completed over the 12 school days leading up to Christmas.

The winning classes—one from EYFS, KS1 and KS2—were awarded an elf, chocolate lollies and a book for their class. The winners were:

    EYFS: Owlets

    KS1: Goldfinches

    KS2: Eagles

The Reading Ambassadors had a fantastic time delivering the prizes to each class!
